Second-year California women’s lacrosse head coach Brooke Eubanks announced on Tuesday the 2016 team captains – seniors Lizz Lavie and Michele DeVincent, along with juniors Sara Nolte and Caroline Schlegel. The captains were selected in a vote by their teammates. All four were MPSF all-academic honorees last season.

“This group represents two defenders, one midfielder and one attacker,” Eubanks said. “Their expertise in their positions gives a great balance to our leadership. They are dedicated to our teams goals and our vision, and they will do a fantastic job leading the way.”

Lavie boasts 81 career points with 58 of those being assists. Her career assists currently ranks fourth in school history. As a junior in 2015, she led the team with 19 helpers.

DeVincent was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in addition to the MPSF all-academic team last season. In 41 games played, she has 31 career ground balls. Last season, her 20 ground balls were tied for first on the team, and her eight caused turnovers were tied for third.

Nolte has started every game in her first two years at Cal. She’s collected career totals of 37 draws and 34 ground balls. She finished her sophomore year with 14 ground balls, 14 draws and four caused turnovers.

Schlegel has also played in every game during her first two years in Berkeley. She has 19 points through two seasons, all goals, including 10 in 2015.

The Bears open the 2016 season against Ohio State on Friday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium.
