BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head coach Phil Schuman announced the 2013 women’s lacrosse regular season schedule today. The 13-game slate is Campbell’s inaugural season for the program, under the direction of Schuman and assistant coach Lindsey McDonald.

“I am pleased to announce our first schedule in program history,” Schuman said. “I am happy we were able to get this together in such short order. We were able to get a few non-conference home games, which I was concerned about early on.”

Campbell will host one exhibition game before the regular season begins with three home matches held at Barker-Lane Stadium in February and March.  The Fighting Camels will travel for seven straight games, including three conference matches. Campbell closes out the regular season with three Big South games in Buies Creek.

Pfeiffer will visit the Creek on Sat., Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in the only preseason match for the Fighting Camels. The Falcons finished the 2012 season at 12-6, falling in the Conference Carolinas tournament final.

Opening the regular season at home, the Fighting Camels will host Kennesaw State of the Atlantic Sun Conference, another first year program. The game will be on Sat., Feb. 23 at Barker-Lane Stadium.

“February 23 is a special day on our campus,” noted Schuman. “Campbell men’s basketball is hosting a televised Bracket Buster game that day as well. Once we have word on their game time, we will determine our start time to avoid conflict and give ourselves an opportunity to have a large and supportive crowd at our first game ever.  We look forward to bringing our sport to Campbell and Buies Creek!”

The Camels will compete in their first Big South conference game as they host Longwood Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. In 2012, the Lancers finished with a 4-13 overall record, going 2-4 in the National Lacrosse Conference.

“We are excited to jump right into Big South play,” Schuman added. “We also have four games on the schedule against other first year programs. This should really give us an idea of where we are in year one.”

On March 5 at 7 p.m., Campbell will welcome St. Joseph’s to the Creek. A member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Hawks went 5-11 in 2012, 1-6 in conference play.

The seven-game road slate begins March 8 at Stetson in a 4 p.m. match. The Hatters are also in their inaugural season for women’s lacrosse.

After a six-day break, Campbell will visit St. Francis March 14 at 7 p.m. in Loretto, Pa. The Red Flash rounded out 2012 with an overall record of 3-14, finishing 1-8 in the Northeast Conference.

The Camels continue on to Detroit Mercy March 16 at 12 p.m. The team was 8-9 overall in 2012 and posted a 5-2 National Lacrosse Conference record, falling to Jacksonville in the league tournament.

The final non-conference matchup will be against Howard at 3 p.m. on March 23. The Bison were winless in 2012, going 0-15 and falling to High Point in the National Lacrosse Conference tournament.

Winthrop will be Campbell’s first conference match on the road March 20 at 2 p.m. The Eagles are also a first-year program. The addition of the program, along with Campbell and Coastal Carolina, allowed for the creation of a Big South women’s lacrosse division.

The Fighting Camels continue conference play at Liberty April 1 at 3 p.m.  The Flames were 3-14 in 2012, going 2-5 against National Lacrosse Conference opponents.

On April 5, Davidson will host Campbell in a 6 p.m. match. Davidson, an associate Big South member, went 8-10 in 2012. The Wildcats were 4-3 in the National Lacrosse Conference, falling to High Point in the conference tournament championship.
Campbell returns home on April 12 for three final regular season matches. Presbyterian will visit Barker-Lane Stadium at 6 p.m. after going 3-16 in 2012, with a 1-6 National Lacrosse Conference season.

In a 3 p.m. game, Campbell hosts High Point on April 15. The Panthers posted a 15-4 overall record in 2012, having a perfect National Lacrosse Conference record ay 7-0. High Point fell to Jacksonville in the NLC tournament final 19-6.

Campbell closes out regular season play April 20 at 1 p.m. against Coastal Carolina in Buies Creek. Coastal is also in their inaugural year of women’s lacrosse in the 2013 season.

The Big South tournament will be held April 26-28, hosted by the No. 1 seed.  The conference tournament will include the four top-ranked Big South teams. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which begins on May 10.
