Syracuse Women's Lacrosse vs. Team USA

BRANDENTON, Fla. – Syracuse jumped out to an early lead before the U.S. national team posted seven straight goals on its way to a 20-8 victory in the Team USA Spring Premiere at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday evening but was postponed to Sunday morning due to inclement weather.

Sophomore Riley Donahue led the Orange offense with five points on a team-high four goals and one assist. Freshman Nicole Levy added three goals in her first appearance for the Orange. Senior Kayla Treanor (Niskayuna, N.Y.) played for the U.S. and had two assists against her teammates.

After the U.S. took a 2-1 lead, Donahue and Levy combined for three goals to put the Orange back on top, 4-2 with 10:35 to play in the first half. Alex Aust found the back of the net for Team USA, sparking a 7-0 scoring run, which included the first goal of the second half, to put the U.S. up 9-4. Levy briefly halted the offensive outburst with her second goal of the game, but Team USA responded by tallying six of the game’s next seven goals to pull away.

In addition to Treanor, five former members of the Orange also competed for Team USA over the weekend. Alyssa Murray ’14 had two goals and an assist against her former teammates, while Katie Webster ’14 added two goals. Current assistant coach Michelle Tumolo ’13 had one goal and four assists in the U.S. squad’s 20-8 win against Florida on Saturday. Treanor had four points (3g, 1a) against the Gators, while Becca Block ’13 had three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Goalkeeper Liz Hogan ’10 played in both games and recorded one save against the Orange.

The six players representing Syracuse are among 36 on the U.S. women’s team vying for a spot on the 24-member roster that will be chosen to play in a European tour the summer. That group will play England, Scotland and Wales at Surrey Sports Park, the site of the 2017 World Cup.
