Eight Home Dates Highlight Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse 2016 Schedule

Eight home dates highlight 100th year of men’s lacrosse at Syracuse, with ACC contests with North Carolina and Notre Dame in the Carrier Dome leading the way for the defending ACC Champions.

Syracuse will face eight teams in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook’s top-20, including five of the top-seven teams in the poll. Notre Dame (No. 1), Duke (No. 3), North Carolina (No. 5), Johns Hopkins (No. 6), Virginia (No. 7), Albany (No. 11), Cornell (No. 15) and Colgate (No. 20) all make appearances on the 2016 slate.

In-state foe Siena will once again kick off the 2016 campaign for the Orange, which begins the year with three-straight games at home.

The Orange will host the Saints on Feb. 13, before welcoming Albany (Feb. 21) and Army (Feb. 28) in consecutive weekend contests to begin the season.

‘Cuse will then begin its conference slate on the road at Klockner Stadium when the squad travels to Virginia on Friday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m.

Syracuse will then welcome St. John’s back to the Carrier Dome for the first time since 2011 on Saturday, March 12 at 4 p.m. before hitting the road to face long-time rival Johns Hopkins in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Quarterfinal.

The Orange will face the Blue Jays on March 19 at 4 p.m. after the teams split the two meetings last season.

The team will then stay on the road as part of a stretch of four-of-five games on the road, when the Orange travels to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke the following weekend

The road trip will be separated by a contest with the unanimous ACC favorite in the league coaches’ poll Notre Dame on Saturday, April 2.

Syracuse then squares off with two long-time local rivals Hobart and Cornell on back-to-back Tuesdays. The Orange will face Hobart for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy in a rivalry that dates back to 1916, where the Statesmen were Syracuse’s first-ever opponent.

The Orange then travel to Cornell in another rivalry, which dates back to 1920. The Orange will travel to the Big Red on April 12.

Prior to the ACC Championship, Syracuse will face North Carolina and Binghamton in a four-day stretch, before heading to Kennesaw, Georgia, site of the 2016 ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championships the following week, where Syracuse will look to defend its title.

‘Cuse then returns home for its final regular season contest against Colgate on May 7 at 1 p.m.

The NCAA Tournament begins the weekend of May 14-15 at Campus sites and continues through Championship Weekend May 28-30 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
