Hopkins Men Check in at Number 5 in USILA/Nike Preseason Poll

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team is ranked fifth in the 2016 USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released Monday.

The Blue Jays earned 340 points to grab the number five spot in the poll, which is topped by defending national champion Denver. The Pioneers earned 14 first-place votes and totaled 431 points and sit ahead of Notre Dame (416 points), Duke (393), Maryland (365) and Johns Hopkins in the top five.

The Blue Jays’ 2016 schedule includes eight games against teams ranked in the top 20 by the USILA and two others against teams listed as receiving votes. All six Johns Hopkins home games this season are scheduled against teams that appear in the preseason poll (North Carolina – Princeton – Towson – Syracuse – Ohio State – Maryland).

Johns Hopkins posted an 11-7 record last season, won the inaugural Big Ten Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the record 29th time since 1972.
