JMU Ranked No. 19 in Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll

BALTIMORE, Md. – James Madison is ranked No. 19 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division l Women’s Preseason Top 20 poll, released by Lacrosse Magazine.

“I am so pleased to see that JMU was remembered from last years season,” Head Coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe said. “I look forward to seeing my athletes work hard to earn this ranking as the year goes on.

JMU has four Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20 opponents on deck in the 2016 season, starting with No. 2 UNC on Saturday, Feb. 6, at noon at University Park in the season opener. The Dukes also host No. 6 Penn State on Wednesday, March 9, at 4 p.m. at University Park.

In a back-to-back road stretch, the Dukes face No. 11 Virginia on Wednesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va., followed by defending National Champion Maryland on Saturday, March 26, at noon at College Park, Md. The Terrapins open the season as the top-ranked team in the nation.

The Dukes finished the 2015 season with a 15-5 record, claiming the Colonial Athletic Association title and advancing to the first round of the NCAA Championships. JMU finished last year’s campaign ranked No. 19 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll. The Dukes ranked as high as No. 17 after a four-game win streak in conference play.

Redshirt junior attacker Betsy Angel, senior midfielder Jaci Gordon and senior defender Carter Reifsnider lead the squad as the captains for the 2016 season. Gordon was an honorable mention for the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Team.
