Marist Women's Lacrosse

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women’s lacrosse team and sixth-year head coach Jessica O’Brien have announced the 2016 regular season schedule. The spring will include trips to Syracuse and Yale in the northeast and a three-game swing during spring break that includes stops in Oregon and Colorado. There are also eight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchups to finish the season.

Marist will open the season in Tenney Stadium for the third consecutive year when it battles Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. Feb. 14. It will be the first time the Red Foxes have faced the Pioneers in eight years. Marist will then head to the Carrier Dome to play the Syracuse Orange, which made the Final Four in 2015, for the first time in program history at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

Three of the next four non-conference contests are at home. The stretch begins with a 12 p.m. date with Vermont on Feb. 28 in Tenney Stadium followed by a game at Yale the evening of March 2 and home contests against Columbia on March 7 and Binghamton on March 12. The Red Foxes defeated Vermont, Columbia, and Binghamton by a combined differential of four goals last season. Marist has not played Yale since 2012.

During spring break the Red Foxes will venture to Oregon and Colorado for the first time in four years. The road trip has three games in five days and begins with a contest against the Ducks on March 19 followed by matchups against University of Colorado-Boulder (March 21) and Denver (March 23).

The MAAC slate commences with a 3 p.m. contest against Iona in Tenney Stadium that will serve as the back end of a doubleheader with the Marist men’s lacrosse team. Following an April 2 duel at defending conference champion Fairfield, the red and white will host Niagara on April 5 and Manhattan on April 13 with both midweek contests scheduled for 4 p.m. The final four regular season games will be on the road, as the Red Foxes visit Quinnipiac (April 16) and Canisius (April 20), host Monmouth on Senior Day at 1 p.m. April 23 and wrap up at Siena on April 27.

The top six conference teams from the regular season will qualify for the 2016 MAAC Championships. The no. 3 and no. 4 seeds will host the quarterfinal round matchups April 30 with the regular season champion holding both semifinals May 6 and the championship game May 8.

Marist ended 2015 with an 8-9 overall mark that included 3-5 in MAAC play. It finished the regular season in fifth place before pulling off an 11-10 upset at Siena in double overtime to avenge a one-goal loss to the Saints during the regular season. The postseason victory advanced the Red Foxes to the MAAC semifinals where they fell to top seeded Canisius.
