COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With less than one month until the beginning of the 2016 campaign, the Maryland women’s lacrosse team has selected seniors Taylor Cummings and Alice Mercer and juniors Nadine Hadnagy and Zoe Stukenberg as the captains for the upcoming season.

“The team voted these four as captains and I think they selected four amazing representatives for Maryland lacrosse,” head coach Cathy Reese said. “All four are extremely hard working on and off the field, and I think they’ll be great leaders for our team this year.”

The 2016 team voted on the captains for this season. All four captains were named Inside Lacrosse preseason All-Americans last month and are returning starters for Maryland.

Cummings returns for her final season with the Terps after winning the last two Tewaaratons. Also a two-time IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year and Honda Award winner, Cummings plays a crucial role in all aspects of the game. In 2015, Cummings led the team in assists, points, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.

Mercer will lead the Maryland defense as a senior. An aggressive and controlled defender, Mercer finished 2015 with 17 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. She is a two-time All-American and member of the U.S. National Team alongside Cummings.

Hadnagy will be an important leader for the defense this season after starting nearly every game in her first two seasons. She picked up 22 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers for the Terps last season.

Stukenberg is a fast midfielder who made an impact on both sides of the ball in 2015 with 60 points, 21 ground balls and 17 draw controls. She earned the prestigious Elite 89 Award last season, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the NCAA finals site.

The Terps open the 2016 season against William & Mary at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Feb. 13 at noon.
