DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s lacrosse team hit the field for the first time in 2016, kicking off team practices this week ahead of the Feb. 4 season opener against Campbell at Koskinen Stadium.

Head coach Kerstin Kimel’s squad returns 27 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2015 squad, which compiled a 16-5 ledger and advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the seventh time in program history. The Blue Devils will be in pursuit of the program’s 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016 after concluding last spring ranked fourth in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.

Duke will look to replace an experienced eight-member senior class from a year ago. Six of the eight were starters, including two-time All-American Kerrin Maurer, who graduated as the program’s all-time career assist leader. The squad returns a pair of All-ACC selections in senior goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea and senior defender Claire Scarrone, who led a defensive unit that allowed just 8.0 goals per game last spring to rank second in the ACC and 12th nationally.

The Blue Devils are set to host eight contests at Koskinen Stadium in 2016, including tilts against ACC opponents Boston College, Louisville and Virginia. For ticket information, visit or call (919) 681-BLUE.

Duke begins exhibition play Jan. 30 with scrimmages against William & Mary and Coastal Carolina in Durham.
