UNC Announces 2016 Men’s Lacrosse Schedule

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina head men’s lacrosse coach Joe Breschi announced the Tar Heels’ 2016 men’s lacrosse schedule Monday.

The Tar Heels will play 13 regular season games in 2016, including seven games against teams ranked in the preseason Top 8 by Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse Magazine.

After hosting a pair of January exhibitions, the Tar Heels will begin the season with a three-game homestand, meeting Michigan on February 6, Furman on February 13 and Hofstra on February 20.

Five of the next seven games involving the Tar Heels will be away from Chapel Hill, beginning with a game at preseason #6 Johns Hopkins on Sunday, February 28 at 12 noon.  The Blue Jays were NCAA semifinalists in 2015.

Carolina returns to Chapel Hill to meet 2015 NCAA champion and preseason #2 Denver at Fetzer Field on Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m.

The Tar Heels will travel to Massachusetts March 12 and Manhattan March 14 before hosting the University of Richmond on Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m.

The stretch run of the 2016 season will be especially challenging.  On March 26, Carolina plays at 2015 NCAA finalist Maryland (preseason #4) before meeting arch-rival Duke on Friday, April 1 in Durham, N.C.  The Blue Devils are ranked #3 preseason in the Face-Off Yearbook poll.

Two of the last three regular-season games will be played at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.  UNC hosts preseason #7 Virginia on Sunday, April 10 at Kenan Stadium at 2 p.m.  On Saturday, April 16, the Tar Heels will play preseason #8 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.  The ACC regular season ends on Saturday, April 23 when the Tar Heels play host to preseason #1 and 2015 NCAA semifinalist Notre Dame at Kenan Stadium at 12 noon.

The top four teams in the ACC regular season standings will compete in the 2016 ACC Tournament at Kennesaw, Ga.  Semifinals are Friday, April 29 and the championship game is Sunday, May 1.  The team that finishes fifth in the ACC regular season standings will play preseason #9 Brown on Saturday, April 30 in Kennesaw, Ga.
