Women’s Lacrosse Announces Ten Additions During Early Signing Period

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College Athletics Department and head coach Michael Daly of the women’s lacrosse program are pleased to announce that 10 future student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) during the Early Signing Period and will join the program for the 2015-16 academic year.

“We are very excited to announce the 10 student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to join Merrimack women’s lacrosse in the fall of 2015,” Daly stated. “This signing class addresses our positional needs in all 3 areas and is a special group of very talented, driven and hard-working student-athletes, both on the field and in the classroom. We are expecting big things from each of them and know they will contribute immediately to the success of Merrimack women’s lacrosse and to our campus community.”

The class includes two attackers, four midfielders, two defenders and two goalies. Geographically, seven of the players hail from Massachusetts, one travels down to Merrimack from Maine, one calls New Hampshire home and another hails from New York.

Delaney Brandon | Defense | 5-6 | Dedham, Mass. / Dedham | Criminology

Daly on Brandon: “Delaney is an aggressive and strong low defender who has a good combination of stick skills, speed and solid footwork. She can be a threat in transition as well and excels both in on and off ball team defense. She helped lead her Dedham Field Hockey team the 2014 MA sectional final and we expect Delaney to bring that championship experience and skills to our defense and push to get on the field right away.”

Kate Coughlin | Midfield | 5-4 | North Grafton, Mass. / Grafton | Business Administration
Four-year letterwinner at Grafton High School … Member of the SWCL Champion women’s lacrosse team as a junior, squad also went to the district finals … Member of the field hockey and winter track teams … Captained the field hockey team as a senior, finishing as a First Team All-Star and qualifying for the district tournament … Also recruited by Fitchburg State, Mount Holyoke, Skidmore, Trinity and Union … Born Oct. 26, 1996 … Daughter of James and Laura … Has one sibling, Jonathan

Daly on Coughlin:  “Kate is a versatile athlete who impacts the field both on attack and on defense. She is a solid dodger and very athletic between the lines. She has excellent footwork and is a smart and instinctive help defender and pushes the ball hard in transition. She helped lead her Grafton team to great success in 2014 with a 14-4 record and trip to the MA sectional finals. We think Kate will fit in well with our team defense and could also contribute on attack with her dodging and shooting on the run ability.”

Tess Destino | Attack | 5-2 | Gloucester, Mass. / Gloucester | Elementary Education

Daly on Destino: “Tess is fast and a strong dodger/driver and scorer on attack, and a do-it-all midfielder. She is an opportunistic driver and reads defenses very well, and is a true finisher. Tess is a two-time NEC All-Star and team leader for Gloucester. In addition she attacks the ball in the midfield like no other on draws and on the ride which makes her a perfect match for our team’s style of play. She also is a great fit for our up-tempo attack with her aggressive dodging and shooting on the run ability.”

Amber Feminella | Attack | 5-8 | Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Hendrick Hudson H.S. | Communications

Daly on Feminella: “Amber is a tough, athletic, quick attack-middie with a high lax IQ who is just coming into her own as an elite lacrosse player and scorer. She is an excellent dodger, cutter and finisher on attack and reads the defense well. She has starred at Hen Hud as a multi-sport athlete and will break their scoring records before she is done. Amber is a true competitor and leader on attack, and she wants to win – that energy level and focus will be a great fit here. We expect her to come in right away and transition easily as a key part of our young, skilled and up-tempo attack.”

Molly Fitzgerald | Goalkeeper | 5-4 | Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional High School | Physical Therapy

Daly on Fiztgerald:  “Molly is a fiery, athletic and instinctive goalie with great reactions, quick hands and accurate/strong clears. She has flown under the radar a bit in western Mass., but we think she is peaking at the right time technically and as a defensive leader in goal. We expect Molly to jump right in and compete for time in net from day one.”

Aliza Jordan | Midfield/Attack | 5-6 | Gorham, Maine / Gorham | Undecided

Daly on Jordan: “Aliza is a quick driving/dodging attacker, and athletic midfielder, who sees the field and reads the defense very well. She has a wonderful combination of speed, patience and strong stickwork, and great field/game sense. She led her Gorham team to the 2014 Western Maine Class A quarterfinals and an 8-5 season. She will fit in very well with our up-tempo, yet balanced attack unit with her smart possession, feeding and shooting on the run abilities.”

Meaghan McKenna | Midfield | 5-7 | Danvers, Mass. / Danvers | Psychology
Four-year letter winner at Danvers High School in lacrosse, three-year letter winner in soccer, as well as the swim and dive team. ..Senior year soccer, received most improved player award.  Lacrosse Northeast Conference League All- Star Team as a sophomore, and All –Conference team player as a junior … Captain of lacrosse for her senior year … Member of Northeast Conference League Champions as a freshman and junior … Received most improved player award after her senior season in soccer … Two-time member of the National Honor Society … Born October 22, 1996 …Daughter of Richard and Margaret … Has two siblings, Katie and Liam.

Daly on McKenna: “Meaghan is a strong, athletic and scrappy midfielder who can handle the ball in the open field as well. She has great quickness, open-field speed and stickwork and will be an impact player for us on the draw circle and on defense right away. She has excelled as a multi-sport athlete at Danvers leading them to the 2014 MA state tournament and a 15-3 record. Meaghan is a versatile, smart and aggressive midfielder and we expect her to come in and impact the program in all 3 phases of the game.”

Daly on Nadeau: “Michelle is an athletic, high-energy and smart on and off-ball defender who has excellent stick skills, defensive instincts and footwork. She will be a key threat in transition as well as caused turnovers and will help lead our young/talented defensive unit. Michelle has helped lead Longmeadow to great team success both in soccer and lacrosse and we expect her to bring that winning mindset and experience to the defensive end of our program.”

Bridget Schofield | Midfield | 5-7 | Littleton, Mass. / Littleton | Undecided

Daly on Schofield: “Bridget is a solid and all-around midfielder with great athletic instincts, vision and speed. She was under the radar at Littleton and is just now developing her all-around game and skills. Still she helped lead her young team to the 2014 MA sectional semifinals and a 13-5 record. She has a great work ethic to go along with her scoring, dodging and playmaking skills on attack, and is a tough defender too. Her skills, versatility and game sense as a midfielder will be great in our system.”

Lauren Trepaney | Goalkeeper | 5-3 | Bishop Guertin High School | Health Sciences
Four year letterwinner for varsity lacrosse at Bishop Guertin High School … Also a letterwinner in soccer … An All-State selection for the past three season for lacrosse, including on the first team last year … Defensive MVP for her junior season … Captain for her senior season of lacrosse … Played for Revolution Lacrosse Club … Also recruited by UMass Lowell, Skidmore College, Slippery Rock University … Born May 24th, 1996 … Daughter of Dave and Carol … Has three siblings, Danielle, Jesse and Cody

Daly on Trepaney:  “Lauren is a very good technical and vocal goalie with strong leadership skills and a calming presence in net. She was the starting goalie on one of the top teams in NH leading Bishop Guertin to the 2014 NH state quarterfinals. She has put up big save numbers against some of the best players in New England and, and as a leftie catches attackers off guard in goal with her quick hands and active style. We expect Lauren to come in and compete for time in net from day one.”
